Western JV Novice Championship

On 3/12 - 3/13, Quarry Lane Speech/Debate competed on-line and in-person at Western JV Novice Championship (Bay Area, CA). This was our first in-person tournament since spring 2020. 317 competitors representing 45 schools from 7 states attended. Of this, 36 Quarry Lane students participated in 2 Debate events, and received the following awards.

Junior Varsity Public Forum - In Person

  • Sanjana Bajaj (10th) & Kyle Du (10th) - 1st place out of 19 entries (top 5%).
  • Abhimanyu Sharma (9th) & Kush Vijapure (9th) - 5th (T) place out of 19 entries (top 26%).
  • Kush Vijapure (9th) - 4th speaker out of 38 entries (top 11%).

Novice Public Forum - In Person

  • Ridhima Motewar (9th) & Srinitha Sridharan (9th) - 5th (T) place out of 20 entries (top 25%).
  • Sofia Vidal-Mackay (10th) - 12th speaker out of 43 entries (top 28%).
  • Tiantian Yang (9th) - 15th speaker out of 43 entries (top 35%).

Novice Public Forum - Online

  • Sarah Chen (7th) & Aditya Gandhi (6th) - 2nd place out of 23 entries (top 9%).
  • Emma Ping (7th) & Ruta Sirdeshmukh (7th) - 3rd (T) place out of 23 entries (top 13%).
  • Irene Fu (7th) & Karen Huang (8th) - 5th (T) place out of 23 entries (top 22%).
  • Irene Fu (7th) - 1st speaker out of 45 entries (top 2%).
  • Aditya Gandhi (6th) - 5th speaker out of 45 entries (top 11%).
  • Sarah Chen (7th) - 7th speaker out of 45 entries (top 16%).
  • Simi Lee (7th) - 11th speaker out of 45 entries (top 24%).
  • Akhil Muthyala (6th) - 12th speaker out of 45 entries (top 27%).
  • Karen Huang (8th) - 13th speaker out of 45 entries (top 29%).
